How We Design for Tradeswomen

At Konstellation, we don’t just make workwear, we reimagine it for women who build, wire, weld, drill, dig, and do it all with grit and grace.

The trades industry has long been built around a one-size-fits-men model. But that doesn’t work for the growing number of women who are stepping into, and excelling in, skilled trades. Ill-fitting pants, jackets that bunch in all the wrong places, and gear that simply doesn’t move with the body, it’s more than an inconvenience. It’s a safety issue, a comfort issue, and frankly, a respect issue.

So we started Konstellation with a mission: to design gear that actually fits tradeswomen. Here’s a peek behind the seams.

1. Listening First, Designing Second

Before we sketched a single pattern, we spent time on job sites (including our very own), in workshops, and in muddy boots, talking to the women who live this life every day. Carpenters, sparkies, plumbers, heavy machinery operators, you name it.

We asked:

  • Where does your current gear fail you?

  • What do you wish your workwear did differently?

  • What features are non-negotiable for you on the job?

We didn’t assume. We listened.

From these conversations, we built a blueprint, not just for products, but for a brand that centers real needs, not just aesthetics.

2. Female-First Fit (Finally)

Women’s bodies aren’t just smaller versions of men’s. We have curves, hips, busts, and different proportions. So we built our patterns from scratch, no “shrinking and pinching” here.

  • Contoured waistlines that move with your body, not against it.

  • Reinforced knees placed where your knees actually land.

  • Multiple inseam lengths because tradeswomen come in all heights.

  • Stretch where it counts, without compromising durability.

Our gear is tough, breathable, and designed for motion, because tradeswomen don’t stand still.

3. Function Is Queen

A good design isn’t just about the fit, it’s about how it works.

We’ve integrated:

  • Strategically placed pockets that are deep, secure, and tool-friendly.

  • Tool loops and hammer holsters that don't dig into your side or ride up.

  • Moisture-wicking fabrics that keep up with 12-hour shifts and weather swings.

  • Reinforced seams because wear and tear shouldn’t win.

Every feature is field-tested and tradeswoman-approved before it hits production.

4. Built to Last. Made Responsibly.

Workwear has to be rugged, but we believe it should also be responsible.

At Konstellation, we use durable materials that extend the life of each garment, reducing the need for replacements. We partner with ethical manufacturing partners and continuously evaluate how we can lower our environmental impact, because progress isn’t just built on job sites.

5. Your Feedback Is Our North Star

Our design process doesn’t end when a product launches. We’re always evolving, because tradeswomen are constantly pushing boundaries.

We stay connected through:

  • Job site visits

  • Wear tests with our community

  • Open DMs and real feedback loops

You build the world, we just build the gear to keep up.

Final Thoughts

“Behind the seams” at Konstellation is where innovation meets intention. Every stitch, pocket, and reinforced panel is rooted in the belief that tradeswomen deserve workwear that works for them, not against them.

So if you’ve ever had to roll up your sleeves (literally and figuratively) just to make your gear work for you, we see you. And we’re building for you.

Welcome to the Konstellation.
